Walk to Bethelehem
Start today… the first week of Advent! After Thanksgiving, I realize that I need to increase the steps I take each day. The journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem would probably go by way of Samaria and Jerusalem and take about four days on foot. It is about 120 Km from Nazareth to Jerusalem and another 10 Km from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. (About 80 miles in all)
So, let’s try to walk 80 miles between now and Christmas Eve. Easy, right!!! If walking isn’t a good idea for you, or you just don’t like to walk, then feel free to substitute any other type of physical exercise/movement. About 20 minutes of activity will equal one mile. This will be more fun if we know that we have company along the way! Spread the word and ask friends to join you in counting steps/mileage/minutes.
I have included some Bible readings for you to use on your journey. Most important is that we encourage each other! Keep a personal log just for you — mileage and thoughts for the journey.
Bible readings include but are not limited to:
Luke 1: 34-38; Isaiah 30:15-18; Psalms 28:6-9; Proverbs 3:5-10; Romans 4:1-81; Peter 2:21-25; Psalm 91:1-4
Luke 2:1-5; Romans 13:1-7; Hebrews 13:17; Acts 5:27-32; Philippians 2:5-12; Corinthians 10:51; John 5:1-5
Ephesians 5:1-2; John 13:34-35; 1 John 4:7-12; John 3:16-21; Psalm 119:97-104; Romans 13:8-11; Corinthians 13:1-13
Luke 2:15-18; Luke 2:36-38; Acts 4:18-21; Peter 3:13-16; Philippians 1:27-30′ Hebrews 12:1-2; Revelation 1:4-7
Enjoy the journey and share your thoughts with us.
Stay healthy, JoAnn Ovcerholt
